Lucknow. For the country's internal security, social cohesion and better utilization of resources, the Central and State Governments are rapidly carrying out the identification campaign of illegal foreign nationals. Uttar Pradesh, which is the largest and strategically important state of the country, is taking special caution in this direction. The government has ordered all DMs and police officers to thoroughly check the documents of foreign nationals and give priority to identifying those living illegally.
The geographical location of Uttar Pradesh makes this campaign more important. The state is connected by eight states, one union territory and the international border with Nepal. Recent years have seen a rise in cases of fake identities, infiltration and instability in the border districts. Illegal infiltrators who settle in cities with the help of fake identities create huge pressure on law and order, social balance and resources.
In view of these challenges, the police and district administration in the state are jointly speeding up the process of verification and identification. The administration has clarified that innocent people will not face any kind of trouble. Strict action will be taken against persons involved in suspicious activities or using fake documents.
Temporary detention centers will be set up in all the districts of the state. Such persons will be kept here whose documents are under verification process. This system will help the administration in investigation and there will be no unnecessary pressure on local facilities.
In 2016, the then Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju had told in Parliament that there could be around 2 crore illegal Bangladeshi citizens living in the country. In August 2017, he also said that there were more than 40,000 illegal Rohingya migrants present in India.
The presence of illegal foreign nationals increases pressure on government schemes, employment and resources. Many times these people create fake identities and take government benefits, which causes loss to the real people. This problem is more visible in rapidly developing cities like Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad and Varanasi, because the population density is already high here.
Experts believe that the risk of fake identity, illegal entry and suspicious activities is high in the districts of UP bordering Nepal. Therefore, timely identification and action is very important.
Overall, this campaign is an important step to strengthen law and order, social cohesion and resource management. With this, future security challenges can be dealt with in a better way and the state will become more secure and stable.
