India will try to use the easy batting conditions at the Barsapara Stadium on Monday as they aim to catch South Africa’s huge first-innings total of 489. The pitch on Day 2 offered almost no help to the bowlers and the South Africans who were 247 for 6 at the end of Day 1 went on to score nearly 500 runs in their first innings.
South Africas lower order made India’s bowlers work hard on a pitch that Kuldeep Yadav described as a road. Spin-allrounder Senuran Muthusamy hit his first Test century and fast bowler Marco Jansen scored 93. Kuldeep was India’s best bowler finishing with 4 wickets for 115 runs.
Indias batters are still recovering from their poor show on the tricky Eden Gardens pitch and will hope to take full advantage of the much better batting surface in Guwahati which is hosting its first Test match. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were unbeaten on 7 and 2 at the end of Day 2.
