A new train journey between two European tourist hotspots is set to open in 2026. Despite being only 293 miles long, it will take a staggering seven days to complete.
Train travel around Europe is popular for people who want to make the most out of being on the continent in one trip. Europe is well connected with trains, and interrailing trips are popular for many people who want to hit several cities in just a couple of weeks.
One country that is pretty well connected via rail is Spain. There is an existing train route that will introduce a new type of train journey, which will last seven days, despite normally only taking under three hours. That is because the journey emphasises luxury, allowing passengers to take in some beautiful countryside and quaint towns when travelling between two of the country's most popular visitor cities.
The seven-day Al Andalus Train Journey will take tourists through iconic landmarks and scenic countryside in the Spanish region of Andalusia, connecting Seville and Madrid. The train journey puts the emphasis on luxury and it will launch in spring 2026.
The slow route has been experienced in the past by the likes of the British Royal Family, and it will soon be available for tourists to book. Tourists will be able to experience the charm of Seville with its great food and historic attractions before moving on to Madrid, with its buzzing nightlife and big-city excitement.
Along the way, passengers will stop in places like Jerez de la Frontera and Toledo. Operators describe the trains as a "hotel on wheels" and promise rooms that will almost make you not want to get off the train.
"In this luxurious hotel on wheels, you will stay in glamorous first-class rooms that recall the elegance of the 20s," the train's website promises. "They are modernised with all comforts, have full bathrooms, WIFI and panoramic views to contemplate the amazing landscapes."
There is an onboard restaurant that will serve local cuisine and "the best" sherry wines and liquors.
However, those wanting to travel on the train will have to be quick about booking their place, as the train will only run on a few dates in 2026. The train will go from Seville to Madrid on April 5 and 19; May 3 and 17; June 7 and 21; September 6 and 20; and October 4.
As it is a "luxury" experience, the price very much reflects that. Fares for passengers start at an eye-watering £5,690 per person for double occupancy in a Grand Class room.
The train is actually the longest on any tracks in Spain. It spans an impressive 450 meters in length, which would be comparable to a 150-storey skyscraper. It is made up of 14 carriages, which accommodate a total of 64 people.
There is also a kitchen car, a bar car, a playroom car, seven-bed cars, a crew car and a generator car. Meanwhile, passengers can also book time in one of the train's four lounges for an extra taste of luxury.
