If you also have two SIM cards, be prepared to loose your wallet. Mobile recharge plans are going to become expensive in the coming days. Mobile users in India may soon face a big shock. According to a report, big telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea may increase mobile tariffs by 10 to 12 percent by the end of 2025. It is worth mentioning that, in July 2024, companies had increased mobile tariffs from 11% to 23%. Now with more additional possibilities, recharge plans may become more expensive for users, although this time companies may adopt a “tier-based” strategy to prevent users from porting to another network.

According to the report, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of active subscribers in May 2025. 74 lakh new active customers have been added in this month alone. This is considered to be the fastest growth in the last 29 months. Now the total number of active mobile customers in the country has reached 1.08 billion. An industry expert said, “This increase in active customers is not only due to acceptance of the previous tariff increase, but also due to reactivation of deactivated secondary SIMs as per the need.”

According to the report, companies do not want to increase the price of cheaper recharge plans, as this may lead to migration of users. Instead, companies can increase the price of mid to high range recharge plans (ie above ₹300). The report also said that there is no clear information about the tariff tier yet, but companies can consider these aspects which will include the amount of data usage, internet speed and the time when the data is used the most.
