The Mumbai team on Friday (November 21) announced its 17-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 season. The most talked about thing is about the return of experienced batsman Suryakumar Yadav, for whom this will be a big opportunity to regain his rhythm and confidence through domestic T20 cricket.
This time the captaincy of the team will be in the hands of Shardul Thakur. The international form of Suryakumar, who scored 717 runs in IPL 2025, has definitely wavered in the last few months. He has scored just 184 runs in 15 T20 innings for India in 2025 at an average of 15.33. In such a situation, returning to the domestic circuit will be very important for him.
India will play a five-match T20 series against South Africa in December. Before that, Surya has a golden platform to regain his rhythm through Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Mumbai team has also become much stronger with the presence of Suryakumar. Star players like Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dubey, Sarfaraz Khan and Ayush Mhatre form the core of the team. Also, young players like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Musheer Khan have also been given opportunities, who add both balance and bench strength.
Suryakumar’s return to this team can be of double benefit, on one hand he will get a chance to find his rhythm before the international level and on the other hand Mumbai will come into the field even stronger to defend its title.
