Smart TV Privacy Threat: A warning has emerged for Smart TV users. Is your TV also silently listening to your conversations? Now the question running in the minds of smart TV users is whether your TV is listening to your private conversations? A recent report has worried people as many TVs can record voice data in the background. Police have also warned that if this feature is misused, your privacy may be in danger. In such a situation, it is important to know how this recording works and most importantly, how to stop it. Let us know in detail. Many major smart TV companies are including microphones, voice assistants and other tracking features in their TVs. Companies claim that these features are to recognize the voice of the users and suggest content accordingly. However, experts say that these same technologies also allow TVs to record information like home environment and your private conversations, which can be a privacy threat. Do smart TVs really listen to our conversations? If your TV has a voice assistant, voice commands, or an always-on microphone, the answer may be yes. These microphones not only work when you speak commands like “OK TV” or “Hello,” but they can also record background noise. Many companies send these audio clips to their servers and claim that this improves voice recognition technology. Not just the voice, but information like what you are watching on TV, channel history, app usage, location, IP address and device ID can also be collected. Later this data can be sold to advertising companies and data brokers. ACR is dangerous. ACR i.e. Automatic Content Recognition is considered to be the biggest threat in smart TV. This technology scans almost everything going on your screen, whether you are watching a show on an OTT platform, playing cable TV, watching something on YouTube. ACR can also capture your TV’s IP address and location data. This allows the company to easily track what content you are viewing, when and where. In view of this, Jammu and Kashmir Police has also advised the users to be cautious.
