Locals in a pretty little seaside town have said that it has the feel of a village and some of the most stunning sunsets in the country. Hunstanton is a 19th-century resort on the west Norfolkcoast that overlooks the Wash, a bay off the North Sea between the town and Skegness in Lincolnshire.
The town has all the staples of a Victorian resort, including a promenade, a fairground, a theatre, a garden with a bowling green, and arcades. There are also numerous shops to visit on the park-adjacent high street, as well as cafes, pubs, restaurants, an aquariumand seal sanctuary, a leisure pool, and caravan parks. Steve Cook told the Express: "Personally, I'm amazed that our 'town' actually has a real village vibe.
Everyone I meet each day always says 'Hello' at the very least. Some days I may be out for a couple of hours whilst walking our dog, purely because of conversations that take place." Lots of locals sang the praises of The Princess Theatre. Named after Princess Diana, it is a 472-seat, year-round venue featuring shows ranging from comedy to drama, music for all tastes, and children's productions with a six-week summer season and an annual Christmas pantomime. Charlotte Moore said: "Sunny Hunny has always been a family-friendly resort. There's a friendly community who are always happy to answer visitors' questions, cafes and pubs, the green, the shops, the funfair, the beach - a postcard resort."
One of the most beloved aspects of the town is its beach. Hunstanton is known for its striped cliffs, a result of layers of different rocks: a dark orange-brown sandstone at the base, a striking red chalk layer, and a white chalk at the top.
The beach itself is sandy and features numerous rock pools to explore, where crabs, starfish, and other marine creatures are visible during low tide.
This part of the Norfolk coast faces west, one of the only places on the east coast of the UK to do so. From here, you can see beautiful sunsets normally only visible from the west coast. Locals called them "some of the best in the country".
Lewis Holland told the Express: "Hunstanton is our favourite seaside town. It might not have the attractions of some bigger locations, but we think it's perfect.
"The people are always friendly, it's always clean and tidy, the views are beautiful, particularly the sunsets and even when it's busy, it's still peaceful and relaxing.
"I've been going to Hunstanton since I was a kid. I miss the boating lake and the speedboats, but for the most part, it hasn't changed, and I think it's better for that familiarity. I wouldn't change anything. To our little family, it's perfect."
The town is also down the road from the best fish and chip shop in England. Eric's Fish & Chips, Thornham, came second at the 2025 Fry Awards in the Best UK Restaurants category, finishing behind Catch in Glasgow.
The restaurant has attracted A-list guests, including William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Jack Whitehall. Chef-owner Eric Snaith also has chippies in Holt, north Norfolk, and St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
Jo Kho said: "Hunstanton is the epitome of a truly British seaside town. It's people and dog-friendly. Everyone is friendly and polite, and as you stroll through the town, people talk to each other.
"The Old Hunstanton beach is the best. There's something for everyone. The town offers a variety of restaurants, ranging from traditional fish and chips to more sophisticated menus, so take your pick! The Sunday bikers meet-ups, the sunsets, the views across the water... just love it."
