New Delhi: India won the Delhi Test against West Indies by 7 wickets and won the series 2-0. This is Team India’s 10th consecutive Test series victory against West Indies. With this, India has jointly achieved the record of most consecutive Test series wins against any opponent. Before India, South Africa had won 10 consecutive Test series against West Indies from 1998 to 2024.
Australia had won nine consecutive Test series against West Indies from 2000 to 2022. The Australian team had won 8 consecutive Test series against England from 1989 to 2003. West Indies has lost 6 consecutive test matches against the Indian cricket team. India’s losing streak against West Indies started when Darren Semie was the captain. Currently, he is the coach of the team.
India won the series 2-0 by defeating West Indies by seven wickets in the second Test played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubhman Gill, Kuldeep Yadve, who took eight wickets in the match, played key roles in India’s victory. Team India, which won the toss and chose to bat, declared its first bet at 518/5. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 175 runs, while captain Shubhman Gile Annam scored 129 runs. Jomel Warrick took 3 wickets from the opposition. In reply, the West Indies team was all out for just 248 runs in the first innings. For the team, Alec Athanas scored the highest score of 41 runs, while Shai Hope scored 36 runs.
Kuldeep Yadve took maximum five wickets for India. Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets. With this, India got a huge lead of 270 runs on the basis of first innings, due to which the visiting team was forced to follow up. After a bad start in the second innings, West Indies were supported by John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103). Justin Imlache also scored an unbeaten 50 and took the team to 390 runs. In this innings, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each for India. Mohammed Siraj took two wickets.
India had a comfortable target of 121 runs to win. Chasing the target, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (8) for just nine runs. Then KL Rahul and SAI Sudarshan brought the team closer to victory by adding 79 runs for the second wicket, but after the dismissal of SAI Sudarshan (39), the team quickly lost 2 more wickets in the form of Shubhman Gill (13). From there, KL Rahul led the team to victory by scoring a half-century. Rahul remained unbeaten after scoring 58 runs, in which he hit 2 sixes and 6 fours. West Indies captain Roston Chase took 2 wickets in this innings, while Jomel Warrick took one wicket. India won the first match of the series in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.
