
New Delhi. Tata Power has made a big deal. The company said it has signed a commercial agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation to buy 40 per cent stake in a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Bhutan for Rs 1,572 crore. Under this, 1125 MW Dorjilung Hydropower Project is to be established. Dorjilung will be Bhutan’s second largest hydropower project, and the largest public-private partnership (PPP) project ever undertaken in the country.
Under the agreement, Tata Power has committed to make equity investment of approximately Rs 1,572 crore in tranches as per the agreed structure. The concession agreement was signed in Thimphu by Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power, and Dasho Chhewang Rinjin, Managing Director, Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), in the presence of Bhutanese Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tsering Tobgay. Let us tell you that this project is going to be commissioned in September 2031, and 80 percent of its production will be supplied to India. This will greatly boost the energy security and availability of clean electricity in the area. This project is supported by the World Bank.
Status of Tata Power shares
Talking about the share of Tata Power, it is sluggish and its price is Rs 386.95 on Friday. The share price in December 2024 was Rs 447.70. This is the 52-week high of the stock. The share price in February 2025 was at Rs 326.25. This is the stock’s 52-week low.
How were the quarterly results?
Tata Power has reported a profit of Rs 1,245 crore during the second quarter (July-September) of the current financial year, which is 14 percent higher than the same quarter last year. The company’s total revenue increased by three percent to Rs 15,769 crore. Operating profit increased by six per cent to Rs 4,032 crore.
