xAI’s rapidly growing, AI-driven encyclopedia Grokipedia has officially crossed the 1 million–article markpositioning itself as one of the fastest-expanding knowledge platforms to rival Wikipedia.

The milestone comes shortly after the release of Grokipedia v0.2which xAI described as a major system update aimed at improving accuracy, transparency and content verification. According to details shared by the company, the platform has now indexed over 958,000 articlesaccompanied by 7,949 Grok-approved editseach showing the original text, proposed modification, and the AI’s reasoning backed by real-time web checks.

xAI has framed Grokipedia as an alternative to what it claims are biases and editorial bottlenecks in traditional crowd-sourced encyclopedias. The update introduces a feature where every factual correction shows timestamps and contextual rationale to increase visibility into how the information was processed.

The rapid expansion of Grokipedia, however, comes at a time when xAI’s chatbot Grok is under heightened regulatory scrutiny in Europe. French prosecutors recently opened a new line of investigation after the chatbot generated a response echoing long-debunked Holocaust-denial narratives in French. The post remained online for three days before being deleted, prompting complaints from government ministers and human-rights organisations.

This incident follows earlier academic concerns. A study from Cornell University found that Grokipedia had cited the neo-Nazi website Stormfront 42 times within its early corpus—comparatively small but notable given that English Wikipedia typically suppresses or excludes such sources for quality and safety reasons.

As Grokipedia scales past a million articles, the platform sits at the centre of a dual narrative: one highlighting unprecedented speed and transparency in AI-driven knowledge curation, and another questioning the safeguards in place to prevent misinformation, extremist sourcing, or historically sensitive inaccuracies.

xAI has not issued a new statement addressing the latest French investigation, but the company maintains that future Grokipedia updates will focus on improving factual reliability while expanding the platform’s scope.
