Former Ashes hero Chris Tremlett has transformed his physique since retiring from cricket. Tremlett was a key part of the last England team to win an Ashes series in Australia back in 2011.

The 44-year-old claimed 17 wickets during that victorious tour, including the last in the fifth test to seal a 3-1 series victory for Andrew Strauss’ squad. The Ashes win was the highlight of Tremlett’s career, which was ultimately cut short four years later following repetitive injuries.

It is 14 years since Tremlett helped guide England to a feat that Stokes’ squad will seek to emulate in the coming weeks. After leaving the sport behind, Tremlett embarked on a new fitness journey.

The towering bowler, standing at 6ft7in, had been nicknamed Twiggy during his earlier years due to his slight frame. He now cuts a much different figure after hitting the gym post-retirement.

The former Hampshire and Surrey cricketer’s physique left fans stunned after being spotted during the last Ashes series in 2023. Despite his huge frame, Tremlett has previously insisted that he has no desire to become a bodybuilder.

“I’m not a bodybuilder and I’m not trying to be a strength athlete,” Tremlett told the Daily Mail in 2020. “I don’t have any aspirations to stand on a stage with a pair of pants on flexing my muscles.

“It’s not really my thing. I like to do this my own way. I don’t take steroids because it’s an unhealthy thing to do and that’s not really the route I’m going down. I’m just trying to improve and we’ll see what happens.”

Tremlett regularly shares workout photos alongside his wife, with whom he shares two sons. The ex-England cricketer now works in property investment but he recently reflected on his approach to fitness since retiring from cricket a decade ago.

“Ten years since retiring from cricket and starting a very different journey,” Tremlett wrote on Instagram. “In that time a lot has changed since being a driven single man all that time ago.

“One thing that hasn’t changed and what has always been my number 1 priority is looking after my health and fitness.

“I have always been strong minded with narrow focus and as resilient as anyone else I know, knowing the things I’ve been through. Many people will chase the latest FAD but one thing that has always kept my mind/body strong is prioritising my body and fitness.

“This has worked for me since the age of 18 when I discovered the gym and 26 years later nothing has changed. Do what works for you but constantly being out of your comfort zone in many situations in life will improve life from my own experience.

“Comfort feels nice but if you stay there too long progress is slow and you’ll be the last to evolve.”
