Bijli Mahadev Mandir: Located on the peaks of Himachal Pradesh, this temple is believed to have a Shivalinga that spontaneously breaks down every 12 years. Located on the high hills of Kullu district, this Shivalinga is known as Bijli Mahadev.

Amidst the tranquil surroundings and forests, there's a place where a miracle occurs every 12 years. But you'll be amazed to learn the method used to reassemble this Shivalinga.

This temple is located approximately 20 kilometers from Kullu and at an altitude of approximately 7,874 feet above sea level. This temple is not as ordinary as it appears.

Locals explain the tradition, which is believed to be a divine act of Lord Shiva, when lightning strikes the Shivalinga once every 12 years.

The religious belief here is that Lord Shiva himself causes lightning to fall on himself because he takes upon himself all the troubles that come to the earth.

This causes a loud explosion when lightning strikes, shattering the Shivalinga into pieces.  However, locals here consider this part of a unique tradition.

A few days after the Shivlinga breaks, the priests and local people carefully join the broken pieces by applying a paste of butter and sattu to it. After a few days, this paste wears off and the Shivlinga starts looking like before.

After which, it is worshipped again as per the prescribed rituals, which the people here consider no less than a miracle.

There's a legend associated with this temple, according to which it's believed that a demon named Kulant , who once lived near the Beas River , wanted to submerge the entire valley. He then took the form of a python and began terrorising the people there.

After which, Lord Shiva appeared there and fought the demon, setting his tail on fire, killing him. It is believed that the body of the demon Kulant also fell on this mountain, after which Bijli Mahadev was established there. Therefore, it is also known as Kulant Peeth.
