Director Jeethu Joseph , who is best known for his work in ‘Drishyam’ 1 and 2, ‘Oozham’, and ‘Mr. & Ms. Rowdy’, recently opened up about another one of his projects. The star director recently helmed the film ‘Mirage’, which was released earlier this year. While there had been a lot of buzz about the film, its box office numbers did not fare well. In a recent interview, the famed director opened up about the matter and even took full responsibility for the film’s performance as well.
Jeethu Joseph opens up about ‘Mirage’ box officeThe director recently sat down for an interview with Screen Awards. During that time, he delved into some of his recent works, which included ‘Mirage’. He shared that he knew that fans had a certain image set in mind for the film, especially since he was the one directing it; however, it could not live up to the expectations.
During the interview, he also mentioned that many people expected twists and turns from the film, although in the end, they were left feeling that the film was too predictable. Adding to that, he further shared, “I’d say, don’t approach it like that. ‘Mirage’ has only a handful of characters. If you assume from the start that each one will change, you’ll naturally feel you predicted it. Our focus was on the ‘mirage effect’, not on adding twists for the sake of it.”
‘Mirage’ was meant for Bollywood The film, which is made in the Malayalam language, was initially made for Bollywood stars, Jeethu Joseph revealed. He further shared that this may have been one of the mistakes that affected the film’s box office performance.
He also shared that the film’s script has been with him for almost 5 years, but nothing has been panning out. “I decided to adapt it into Malayalam because I had given my word. Maybe it was the wrong call, I’m not sure. The producers had already paid an advance, and I was under a lot of pressure when I committed.”
Premise of ‘Mirage’Starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali , ‘Mirage’ is a suspense-filled crime thriller film that revolves around the lives of Aswin Kumar and Abirami. The story follows along after Abirami’s fiancé disappears, and she tries to unravel the mystery behind everything.
Coming next for Jeethu Joseph is 'Drishyam 3'.
