A horrific car crash in Sydney's Hornsby suburb has claimed the life of an eight-month-pregnant Indian-origin woman.
The victim, Samanvitha Dhareshwar (33), was walking with her husband and three-year-old son when a speeding BMW hit a Kia car that had slowed down for them.
According to authorities, the Kia had slowed to allow Dhareshwar and her family to walk near the entrance of a parking garage when it was rear-ended by a speeding BMW driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu.

The impact pushed the Kia into Dhareshwar, causing catastrophic injuries.
Dhareshwar was rushed to Westmead Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Her unborn child also did not survive the tragic incident.
The drivers of both the BMW and Kia cars, however, escaped without injuries, police said.
It is unclear if Dhareshwar's husband and her three-year-old child were injured in the incident.

The BMW driver has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
Magistrate Ray Plibersek described the crash as "absolutely tragic case" and denied Papazoglu bail due to its seriousness.
Notably, New South Wales introduced Zoe's Law in 2022, which imposes harsher penalties for crimes resulting in the death of an unborn child.
Under this law, those convicted of dangerous or negligent driving causing such a death could face up to three extra years in prison.
Community mourns, tributes left at accident site
Public mourning
The accident site has turned into a makeshift memorial with flowers and messages left by grieving community members.
One message read, "I pray for you and your little one that you are held with love as you leave this world."
According to her LinkedIn profile, Dhareshwar was a qualified IT systems analyst at Alsco Uniforms, a uniform rental company.
