New Delhi. Are you going to get your Aadhar Card in a completely new form? Will all the information like name, date of birth, address be removed from Aadhaar card and only photo and QR code will remain? These questions are being raised because UIDAI has openly said that it is seriously considering making Aadhaar card super secure and only QR based.
Aadhaar is considered to be the biggest and most important document of identity in India. But now UIDAI is preparing to make Aadhaar card more secure and smart. In an open online conference, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has given a very big hint - it is possible that in future only photo and QR code will be kept in the Aadhar card. That means printed details like your name, address, date of birth can be removed. Why is this change being made? The direct answer to this is – data security and ban on misuse of Aadhaar.
In an open online conference, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said that the authority is considering bringing such rules in December, which will almost eliminate the offline verification done at hotels, events, societies and other places. This step is considered necessary because many institutions still collect photocopies of Aadhaar, which is against the Aadhaar Act and increases the risk of misuse of personal data. Kumar clearly said that as long as the information remains printed on the Aadhaar card, people will continue to use it as a common identity document. UIDAI believes that printing information increases the risk of data theft. So now the effort is to make the card show only a photo and QR code. Verification happens as soon as you scan the QR and no one can copy or save your personal details.
A decision on this new rule is likely to be taken in the important meeting of UIDAI on December 1. If these rules pass, they will aim to:
Many hotels, event organizers, financial companies still ask for offline Aadhaar copy. But UIDAI wants to stop this.
UIDAI is about to launch a brand new Aadhaar app that will replace mAadhaar. There will be many new features in this app:
This app will be made according to the Data Protection Act, which will be fully implemented in the coming months.
According to the UIDAI official, the new QR scan system may be implemented at these places:
That means now there is no need to show paper or card for identification, just show the QR code and verification is complete as soon as the face is found.
UIDAI has released the online details which will be updated by the institutions so that they can do both physical presence + authentication of the person through QR code scan. UIDAI's new technology will be given to OVSE (Offline Verification Seeking Entity).
Process:
From the direction UIDAI is moving, it is clear that India is soon moving towards QR based Aadhaar identification system. This change will make Aadhaar more secure, simpler and free from fraud. After the December meeting, the picture will become more clear whether the design of Aadhaar card is going to change completely.
