After months of debate, allegations, and heated discussions surrounding 'Empuraan', actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has spoken out for the first time. This comes at a time when the director Major Ravi is facing criticisms for his colleboration rumors with Mohanlal for an upcoming project. Major Ravi had earlier stated that Mohanlal was distressed with the 'Empuraan' controversy and the actor had only watched the movie after the release.

'Empuraan' script had been narrated to Mohanlal and producerIn an interview with Manorama News done as part of ' Vilaayath Buddha ' promotions, 'Empuraan' director firmly stated that he does not make films to express his political leanings. He also confirmed that the complete Empuraan script had been narrated to both the film’s lead actor, Mohanlal, and the producer, shutting down rumours that he had “kept them in the dark.”

Prithviraj stressed that if he ever wished to voice political opinions, he would do so openly on social media. “If what I say is honest, there is nothing to fear,” he remarked, suggesting that filmmaking should not be mistaken for political commentary.

'Social media has been weaponised'The actor also addressed the toxic climate surrounding public conversations. According to him, social media has increasingly become a tool for polarisation. “When someone comments on politics, one group paints them as a villain while another portrays them as a hero. Both extremes are dangerous,” he said.

Prithviraj noted that silence is often misinterpreted, but in today’s climate, choosing not to engage can be a wise decision. “Your words can be taken far away from their original meaning. In such times, staying silent is not wrong.”

Mob mentality and harassment in the digital agePrithviraj condemned the growing trend of online mobs celebrating the mistakes or missteps of celebrities. He revealed that many within the film industry — including his colleagues — have suffered serious harassment on social platforms. “People have cried to me about this. Those attacking them know it’s wrong, yet they derive pleasure from it,” he said. He added that even the media participates in amplifying such negativity.

Major Ravi's earlier statementEarlier during the heated 'Empuraan' controversy, Major Ravi said in a Facebook live session that Mohanlal had only watched the full movie after it's release. This was indeed an indirect hit at Prithviraj Sukumaran, hinting that the 'Vilayath Buddha' actor had purposefully used Mohanlal to convey his politics. Recently Major Ravi has been receiving criticisms from every corners soon after the announcement of his new project 'Pahalgam', which is rumoured to have Mohanlal in the lead.
