A combination of active weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and northern parts of India is set to bring a mixed spell of heavy rain, thunderstorms, chilly winds and dense fog across several regions over the next few days. The (IMD) latest bulletin indicates that southern states will see a surge in rainfall activity from November 16–18, while parts of central and north India brace for cold wave conditions as temperatures continue to dip.




Rainfall to intensify across south IndiaAccording to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected at many places across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe from November 16–18. Meanwhile, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema are likely to experience similar weather on November 17 and 18. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are set to receive heavy rainfall on November 18 and 19.



The IMD has warned of thunderstorms with lightning over Tamil Nadu until November 18, over Kerala & Mahe on November 17 and 18, and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on November 16 and 17. Gusty winds reaching 30–50 kmph are also likely over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from November 16–19 as the system strengthens over the Bay of Bengal.




Cold wave central and northern IndiaWhile southern states prepare for heavy rainfall, parts of north and central India are expected to see winter intensifying.



Cold wave conditions are very likely in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, particularly on November 15 and 16. Isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and east Rajasthan are also expected to experience cold wave conditions during this period. Night temperatures in several regions are expected to dip sharply.



The IMD has predicted that the minimum temperatures over West India will fall further by 3–4 degrees Celsius after remaining steady for the next 24 hours. In other parts of the country, no major temperature change is expected through the week.



Adding to this, shallow to moderate fog is likely to cover parts of Northeast India and Uttar Pradesh over the next five days, potentially affecting early morning visibility and travel.







Day-wise weather breakdown (15–20 November) November 15Thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Central and northern states including Chhattisgarh, east Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are likely to continue experiencing cold wave conditions.

Over the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Comorin region, squally winds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, could pose challenges for marine activities and coastal operations.



November 16Heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places in Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are expected in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Andhra Pradesh. Cold wave conditions persist across pockets of Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Squally weather continues along the Tamil Nadu coast, with wind speeds touching 55 kmph.



November 17Heavy rainfall is likely in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, and Tamil Nadu. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds could affect the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and isolated parts of South India. The IMD has issued no fishermen warning, indicating stable marine conditions for most coastal areas except those under wind advisories.



November 18Weather conditions are expected to peak, with heavy rainfall at isolated places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe and Tamil Nadu. Thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 50 kmph will affect the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, while thunderstorms are also expected over Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Squally conditions will prevail over the Andaman Sea, posing risks to small vessels and fishing boats.



November 19The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will continue to receive heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 50 kmph. No warnings have been issued for fishermen along mainland coasts.



November 20Weather conditions are forecast to stabilise across the country, with no significant warnings issued for any state or coastal area.



Outlook for November 15–17For the subsequent three days (November 15-17) rainfall activity is likely to remain fairly widespread across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Islands. Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka will witness isolated to scattered showers.



With multiple weather systems active simultaneously, the IMD has urged residents in affected regions to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms, and follow local advisories. Fishermen in the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and the Andaman Sea have been asked to exercise caution due to strong winds.



As temperatures continue to drop across central and northern India and rainfall intensifies in the south, citizens are advised to stay updated through official IMD channels for timely forecasts and warnings.
