In a hilarious bit of stump mic conversation, Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah was heard trolling South Africa captain Temba Bavuma during the first session of day 1 of the IND vs SA 1st Test in Kolkata.

The IND vs SA Test series got underway on Friday at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with Bavuma winning the toss and electing to bat first.

The pitch showed signs of inconsistent bounce right from the first over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. The spearhead Indian pacer was on the money from the onset, but India leaked runs from the other end, with the first spells of Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel being erratic, and both conceded a spate of boundaries from Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram.

However, Bumrah broke the opening stand of 57 runs, and India hammered into the Proteas’ batting order, having them in trouble at 147/4 ahead of the tea break.

Jasprit Bumrah was at his best throughout the first two sessions, registering excellent bowling figures of 12-4-23-3. He claimed the wickets of Rickelton, Markram, and Tony de Zorzi, not allowing the three set batters to carry on and build something substantial.

IND vs SA: (Video) Jasprit Bumrah Trolled Temba Bavuma As “Bauna” For His Short Height

Bumrah also put Bavuma in misery when a length delivery of his jagged into the pads of the South African skipper. Bavuma played his defensive stroke down the wrong line and was struck on his thigh pad. The Indians went up in appeal, but umpire Rod Tucker was unmoved.

India contemplated taking a review, with Bumrah discussing with wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. However, the fast bowler himself wasn’t sure of the balls hitting the stumps.

During this discussion, he was heard referencing Bavuma’s short height as “Bauna” (Hindi trolling word for a short-heighted man), suggesting that since Bavuma’s a short-statured person, the ball is likely to go above the stumps when it’s already hitting his thigh pad.

Bumrah was heard saying, “Bauna bhi toh hai ye b***d.” Bumrah, though, said it in such a way that it was hilarious for the fans hearing it on the stump mic.

Meanwhile, India are on top by Tea in Kolkata on day 1. After a 57-run opening stand between the Protea openers, India rammed through their lineup with Bumrah and Kuldeep making the first five dents. Kuldeep dismissed Wiaan Mulder and Bavuma.

Siraj, who was off color in the first session, bowled brilliantly in the second session and earned the wickets of Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen as he improved his line and bowled tightly within the stumps. Axar got rid of Corbin Bosch at the stroke of the tea break.

Earlier, Kagiso Rabada missed this match due to a rib injury. India ripped up a surprise by playing six bowlers, with Washington Sundar slotted in at No. 3 in place of Sai Sudharsan. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy and Sudharsan in the XI.
