Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has made such important reforms in the Revenue Department after a long time, which has opened the door to new possibilities. Under the Lekhpal Service Rules (Fifth Amendment), 2025, approved by the Yogi Cabinet, now chainmen will get the opportunity of promotion to the post of Lekhpal. This change will not only strengthen the administrative structure but will also ensure better utilization of the potential of the experienced staff.

Now two percent posts reserved for chainman

According to the revised rules, out of the total sanctioned posts of Lekhpal, 2% posts will be given to qualified chainmen on the basis of promotion. Earlier, recruitment to all the posts of Lekhpal was done through direct recruitment through Subordinate Services Selection Commission, but now for the first time, it has become a way for chainmen to move forward as well.

New conditions of eligibility and eligibility

For promotion the chainman has to fulfill certain prescribed conditions. They should basically be appointed to the post of Chainman. Must have completed at least six years of regular service as on the first day of the recruitment year. Must have passed Intermediate or equivalent examination. These eligible candidates will be selected on the recommendation of a special selection committee.

Vacancies in Revenue Department will also be affected

There are 30837 sanctioned posts of accountants in the state, out of which 21897 are posted, while 8940 posts are still vacant. The new system will enable experienced chainmen to avail of these vacancies, which will improve the efficiency of the department and human resource utilization.

Expected benefits to administration from policy reform

The government believes that the chainmen, who have been working at the ground level for years, are well aware of the local problems, revenue functions and regional needs. Bringing forward such experienced people as accountants will speed up field work, increase efficiency in revenue services, ensure transparency and speed in the implementation of schemes, and common citizens will get better services on time.
