Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his two-day visit to Bhutan. During this he met King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan. PM Modi said that I am extremely overwhelmed by the reverence with which the holy relics of Lord Buddha have been received in Bhutan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the King of Bhutan took blessings from the holy relics of Lord Buddha. With the monks chanting, they prayed to the holy relics. Prime Minister Modi attended the historic ceremony at Changlimthang Stadium in Bhutan’s capital Thimphu, in which the 70th birthday of Bhutan’s fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck is being celebrated.

Regarding this, PM Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that I am extremely overwhelmed by the reverence with which the holy relics of Lord Buddha brought from India have been received in Bhutan. It reflects the unbreakable spiritual bond between our people, rooted in Lord Buddha’s message of peace and harmony.

The King of Bhutan expressed his condolences on the loss of lives and property in the tragedy in Delhi. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiwal said the two leaders discussed progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan jointly inaugurated the 1020 MW Punatsangchu-II Hydroelectric Project. This hydropower project, which will increase Bhutan’s power generation capacity by 40 percent, will supply electricity to both countries.

With the completion of this project, another milestone has been achieved in the dynamic and mutually beneficial India-Bhutan energy partnership.

The Prime Minister recalled the contribution of the fourth King who took India-Bhutan friendship to such heights. He said this unique relationship has been continuously strengthened by the personal interest and wisdom of the fourth monarch. With his advice and guidance, this relationship will continue to deepen in the times to come.
