In Hindu religion, Tulsi marriage is considered a very sacred and auspicious occasion. According to religious beliefs, on this day Mata Tulsi is married to Shaligram, the form of Lord Vishnu. This marriage can be done on any day between Devuthani Ekadashi and Kartik Purnima, although according to the calendar, Tulsi Vivah will be celebrated on 2 November (Sunday) in 2025.
It is believed that Tulsi marriage brings happiness, prosperity and good fortune in life. On this day, all the rituals like marriage, Haldi, Mehndi, Jaymala, Phere etc. are performed with full enthusiasm and devotion.
Install the Tulsi plant on a pedestal or plank in the courtyard or terrace.
Plant a sugarcane in a Tulsi pot and prepare a pavilion by placing red chunari on it.
Place the idol of Lord Shaligram or Lord Vishnu in the pot.
Apply turmeric and sandalwood paste on both Tulsi and Shaligram.
After this, offer fruits, flowers, lamp, incense and naivedya.
In marriage rituals, seven rounds of Tulsi and Shaligram are made. This work is done by a male member of the house.
During the round, Akshat (rice) colored with vermillion is offered to Tulsi Mata and Shaligram.
After the puja, Aarti is performed by burning camphor and at the end Prasad is offered and distributed among all.
It is considered auspicious to donate the Tulsi plant to a Pandit or Brahmin after marriage.
