The US police have released chilling details of the shooting death of a 51-year-old Indian origin man in the city of Pittsburgh, on Saturday. Rakesh Ehagaban, a motel owner in the city of Robinson, was shot in the head by a 37-year-old American man while he tried to intervene in a dispute that occurred outside his motel last Friday.
The accused has been identified as Stanley Eugene West, 37, who was staying in the motel with his female companion and a child for about two weeks, according to the Tribune-Review.
The Robinson Police said the woman was attempting to drive away from the motel on Friday when the shootings began. The black sedan she drove was moving toward the exit when West approached the driver’s side door and shot at the sedan, shattering the driver’s door window. “That incident is what drew Ehagaban outside where he was shot,” according to police.
The Indian man approached West, who was holding the gun, and asked: “Are you alright, bud?” West continued to walk toward Ehagaban. “As (West) gets within feet of Ehagaban, he raised his firearm and shot him in the head,” the police report stated, adding that Ehagaban died at the scene. Police recovered a 9mm Blazer Luger from the sidewalk near Ehagaban’s body.
The shooter then walked towards the U-Haul moving van parked in the lot and drove away.
Meanwhile, the woman who suffered a bullet injury in her neck drove the vehicle, with the child inside, to a nearby auto service centre. A child — who had been sitting in the rear of the car when the woman was shot — was not injured. She is said to be in critical condition.
West, who drove off in the U-Haul, was tracked an hour later. But when police approached the vehicle, he got out of the van and started shooting. The detectives returned fire, and an officer was injured in the exchange of gunfire. The accused also sustained a bullet injury in the incident.
