NPCI roll back UPI Mapper Facility: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched its new The decision to implement UPI Mapper Rule has been withdrawn for the time being. This rule was supposed to allow UPI users to choose whether Which UPI app (like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm etc.) will be the default app to receive their money.

But due to problems faced by TPAPs (third-party UPI apps) and problems faced by users, NPCI has stopped it for now.

How did the UPI system work earlier?

  • When a user first time PhonePe, GPay or Paytm But used to create UPI ID,
The same app always remained the default.

  • No matter how many new UPI apps you add later,
The payment always opened automatically in the same first app.

Example:
If you first Create UPI ID on PhonePeUPI always opened PhonePe on clicking the payment link — even if you installed Paytm later.

What was the UPI Mapper Rule going to change?

  • user Could choose on which app to receive payment

  • This means that your UPI ID will remain the same, but you will be able to use the default app. could decide themselves

  • This would break the “monopoly” of PhonePe-Google Pay and also create an opportunity for small UPI apps.

Then why did NPCI stop it?

  • by sudden change Many apps started glitching

  • Users by changing UPI flow started getting confused

  • In big systems like IMPS/UPI risk started increasing

Therefore NPCI said –
“This rule will not be implemented until all the apps are completely ready.”

What does this mean for users at the moment?

What will happen now?impact on users
the old system will still workUPI will run as smoothly as before
The default app will remain the same as beforeno changes
no new settingsuser has nothing to do
