Gitanjali Angmo, wife of well-known social activist Sonam Wangchuk of Ladakh, has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court. He has alleged that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) is continuously monitoring him, thereby violating his personal liberty and fundamental rights.

Geetanjali said in her complaint that when she went to meet her husband in Jodhpur, Rajasthan Police and IB followed her. The authorities were keeping her under close surveillance during her travel and meeting with her husband. He claimed that he was being monitored since his press conference in Delhi in September. No matter where they go, officials follow them, thereby violating their privacy.

Geetanjali told that on October 7 and 11, when she reached Jodhpur airport to meet her husband, the police took her straight into the vehicle.

During the meeting with Wangchuk in jail, DCP Manglesh and a lady constable were present there, who made notes of their conversation. He said that in Jodhpur he was not allowed to go anywhere else or meet anyone else, which is a violation of his rights.

Geetanjali says that this police surveillance is a violation of her constitutional rights. As a citizen, she has every right to meet her husband and go to Jodhpur without any restriction.

Also, under the right to privacy, no one else has the right to listen to the conversation between him and Wangchuk. He said that this action of the police is a violation of Article 19 (freedom of expression) and Article 21 (right to life and privacy) of the Constitution.

Geetanjali has demanded the Supreme Court to immediately stop this surveillance and protect her rights. The next hearing date of the case is awaited. Meanwhile, no official statement has come from the government and police yet.
