OpenAI’s new move: ChatGPT Atlas

Taking an important step in the field of Artificial Intelligence, OpenAI on Tuesday unveiled ChatGPT Atlas. It is the company’s first AI-based web browser and is OpenAI’s third consumer product after ChatGPT and Sora app. Currently, it is only available on the macOS platform and uses the GPT-5 model.

OpenAI joins the race for AI browser

ChatGPT Atlas was unveiled in a live event, where its features were showcased. This browser looks simple, but the power of GPT-5 model is hidden behind it. The company said that support for Windows, iOS and Android will be added soon. At present, its basic version is available to all users, while the agent feature will be available only to paid subscribers.

How does ChatGPT Atlas work?

Atlas’ home page is similar to the ChatGPT interface, with recent chats displayed in a side panel. Users can type the question here or directly enter the URL of a website and visit it. This browser comes with a smart sidebar assistant that can help you understand content on any tab, compare products, or analyze data.

AI will remember user preferences

OpenAI has added a “browser memory” feature to Atlas, allowing it to remember past sessions and personalize the experience based on that. However, the company has clarified that users will have full rights to decide what the browser remembers and what not.

Atlas’ key feature: Agent Mode

Atlas’s most talked about feature is Agent Mode, which gives the AI browser the ability to interact with websites on the user’s behalf. This feature gives the browser the power to research different websites, buy products, and plan trips. Currently, this feature is available as a preview for ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro, and Business users.
