The company is shutting down the Messenger desktop app for both Windows and Mac platforms from December 15. According to a report, users will not be able to use the Messenger app on their laptops or desktops after this specified date. As reported by TechCrunch, Meta has announced that after December 15th users using Messenger on desktop will be notified of the end of support. The company has advised users to delete the app, as it will no longer be usable. It is important to note that the Messenger app will continue to work on smartphones as before.

For users using the desktop app, Meta has provided guidance on how to keep chat history safe. Before accessing the web version, users have to activate Secure Storage and set a PIN to save chat history. After setting the PIN, when users access the web version, their chat history will be available there.
