The day of 17 September at the World Athletics Championship was very memorable for the men’s spear throwing qualification round. This day emerged as a story of two throw, the first throw of Neeraj Chopra and the last throw of Arshad Nadeem. Both of them in their own style confirmed the place in the finals, but the journey between them was full of dramatic fluctuations, which forced the audience of Tokyo to stop breathing.

Neeraj Chopra’s ‘One and Dun’

Last champion Neeraj Chopra was struggling with the form in this season, but in the qualification round he showed his dominance from the beginning. He threw the first throw at 84.85 meters, above the automatic qualification mark (84.50 m). Neeraj was reflected in the confidence that was missing for the last few months. He spoke openly on the problems faced by adopting new technology in the competition, but on this day he picked up, thrown and left the stadium without any pressure.

Neeraj told the media that his goal was to ensure the final in the first throw so that he could rest before the final. Even though he was not completely satisfied with the distance, no other player could beat him in the first round. Diamond League Champion Julian Weber could also reach only 82.29 meters.

Indian hope glimpse of Sachin Yadav

Along with Neeraj, Sachin Yadav of India also raised hope. He had a brilliant throw of 83.67 meters, which was better than his recent performances. However, while finishing sixth in the group, he had to wait for the results of Group B. At the same time, Julian Weber qualified by throwing 87.21 meters in the second attempt and David Wagner of Poland shocked everyone by throwing the best 85.67 meters of his career.

Arshad Nadeem returns in the last moments

Everyone had high expectations from the Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, but their first throw went to only 76.99 meters and the second only 74.17 meters. When it seemed that his place would not be made in the finals, he gave full strength in the last throw. This decisive attempt covered a distance of 85.28 meters and Arshad confirmed his place in the finals in the final moments. Earlier, veteran Julius Yigo drew attention to everyone by throwing beyond 85 meters, while Anderson Peters recorded the biggest score of the day with a huge throw of 89.53 meters.

Competition before the finals exciting

The contenders who have made it to the finals include Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem, Julian Weber, Anderson Peters, Julius Yigo and David Vegner. This time there is no clear favorite in the final, which has made the competition even more exciting. The throwing of men’s spear to be held on September 18 at 3:30 pm can prove to be a historic match, where every player will put full power for the gold medal. Indian fans are eyeing Neeraj, but this final can go in any direction.
