Women’s World Cup 2025: The future of ICC Women’s ODI World Cup matches to be held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium has become uncertain, as the hosts Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) could not take the approval of the police till 10 August. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) had informed the KSCA to get necessary approval till last Saturday but according to local police officials, the process has not been completed till Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Greenfields Stadium in Aakritom, Thiruvananthapuram, has emerged as a possible alternative site for hosting matches to be held at Bangalore.

First match in Bangalore on 30 September

The first match of this prestigious ICC tournament is to be played between India and Sri Lanka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on 30 September. After this, the finals are to be played here on England and South Africa (October 03), India and Bangladesh (26 October), second semi -finals on 30 October and November 2. Reliable sources have revealed that Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) officials have been asked about the competition program and preparation of the venue for hosting big matches within about a month.

Kerala can get hosting

According to the ICC guidelines, the host association will have to hand over the venue to the global governing body 30 days before the tournament starts and there should be no other match at the stadium during that period. Although the Greenfields Stadium is going to host the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) matches between August 21 and September 7, KCA officials believe that if the World Cup matches are held, they will transfer T20 matches to another place. Sources associated with this development told PTI, “If the World Cup matches are transferred here, we have an alternative sites but we are still waiting for the final confirmation.”

M Chinnaswamy Stadium declared insecure

KSCA officials did not respond to questions to possible site change but it has been found that they have proposed to hold the World Cup matches at the vacant stadium to get police approval. It is worth noting that KSCA had to transfer it to Masuru despite deciding to hold the Maharaja T20 Trophy at the vacant stadium at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The state association was forced to move the tournament after a member Dicunha Commission declared the Chinnaswamy Stadium ‘unsafe’ for large events. The state government on June 4 formed the Commission to investigate the stampede during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL victory. Many people were killed and many others were injured in the stampede.
