Born on September 15, 1861, Sir Visvesvaraya is celebrated for his remarkable contributions to engineering and is regarded as one of India's most esteemed engineers. He was a visionary civil engineer and statesman, instrumental in numerous modern infrastructure initiatives across the nation.

Emerging from modest beginnings, Sir M. Visvesvaraya ascended to the role of Diwan of Mysore and served as the President of the All-India Manufacturers’ Organisation. He received the Bharat Ratna award in 1955. His legacy includes groundbreaking flood management systems, innovative dam constructions, and advancements in irrigation. This year's theme is ‘Engineering solutions for a sustainable future’.
