Jayant Yadav has signed up for Puducherry for the 2025-26 domestic campaign, bringing an end to a 14-year association with Haryana. He played for Haryana since the 2011/12 season. No Objection Certificate has been issued to off-break bowler by Haryana Cricket Association. 

 

It is recognized that Jayant's choice is based on his desire to be a multi-format player. Jayant has not been a constant member of the white-ball teams of Haryana since the 2023-24 season, the same year Haryana won the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nishant Sindhu and Rahul Tewatia, as per ESPNcricinfo, have been given preference over Jayant. 

 

Jayant scalped 28 wickets from eight matches for Haryana in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. The quarter-final match against Mumbai was Jayant's final match for Haryana. He took three wickets and made 40 runs in two innings in his team's 152-run loss. 

 

Jayant comes with vast experience to Puducherry. He has taken 265 wickets in 90 First-Class matches and has made 2924 runs with 14 half-centuries and three centuries.

He will take the place of Mumbai wicketkeeper-batter Siddhant Adhatrao and Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Puneet Datey in the Puducherry squad. The 35-year-old also comes in as a late replacement for Armaan Jaffer, the nephew of former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer.

 

Talking about his global record, Jayant has played for India in six Tests and two ODIs. Insofar as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is involved, he has played for three teams until now: Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Despite being under contract with GT, he did not participate in any matches in 2024 and 2025. 

 

Although another opportunity of representing India appears to be in the distant future, Jayant can enjoy the chance of leaving his imprint on Puducherry cricket. Puducherry stood eighth within the Elite Group B for the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. They were fifth in Group C for the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
