England squad for IND vs ENG 4th Test: England have announced their squad for the IND vs ENG 4th Test, which is slated to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23.

They have made one swap and also released two pacers from their squad that was part of the Lord’s Test, which they won in a thrilling finish by only 22 runs.

England lead the five-match IND vs ENG Test series by 2-1 with two more Tests remaining. The hosts won in Leeds by five wickets before going down by 336 runs at Edgbaston.

Ben Stokes’ side, though, bounced back at Lord’s, with the skipper leading by example through inspirational bowling and fielding efforts. Stokes bowled high-intensity long spells throughout the match and also affected the run-out of Rishabh Pant at the stroke of lunch on day 3, which has been talked up as the turning point of the Lord’s Test.

England will definitely have one change to their line-up at Manchester as off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who took the last wicket at Lord’s, has been ruled out for the rest of the series due to a finger injury.

Bashir sustained an injury on the little finger of his left hand while attempting a tough return catch from Ravindra Jadeja during India’s first innings on day three. He was on and off the field for the rest of the match but gave England the decisive wicket of Mohammed Siraj in the last session on day 5 that sealed the win for the hosts.

“It’s not good news for Bash. Very disappointing for us as a team and for him, a big shame (his injury),” Ben Stokes said after the match.

Liam Dawson named as Shoaib Bashir’s replacement for IND vs ENG 4th Test

For the 4th Test in Manchester, England have picked left-arm spinner Liam Dawson as the replacement for the injured Bashir, who is ruled out of the series.

England Men’s National Selector, Luke Wright, said“Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire.”

35-year-old Dawson, a left-arm finger-spinner and a right-handed batsman, played three Test matches between 2016 and 2017. He has vast experience in first-class cricket, having played 212 matches in which he has taken 371 wickets and scored over 10,000 runs.

He’s been in terrific form in recent times for Hampshire. Dawson was the PCA Player-of-the-Year award winner in 2023 and 2024. In the recent County Championship, he featured in nine games and picked up 21 scalps.

Further, England have released pacer Sam Cook and seam-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton to return to their respective counties to play in the County Championship. With an eight-day gap between the third and fourth Tests, England are likely to retain Jofra Archer in the XI and perhaps rest one of Chris Woakes or Brydon Carse for Josh Tongue in Manchester.

England squad for IND vs ENG 4th Test:

Ben Stokes (C), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes
