I was randomly scrolling through YouTube last night (as you do when you should be sleeping), and I came across this old Rajeev Masand interview with Prabhas. You know those late-night rabbit holes where you end up watching stuff from like 2019? Yeah, that happened.
But man, am I glad I found this because Prabhas said something that literally made me sit up in bed. We might have only seen 60% of the Baahubali story. SIXTY PERCENT. I’m not even kidding.
So here’s the thing—and I had to rewind this part three times because I thought I heard wrong—Prabhas basically told Masand that all those hours of epic storytelling we got? That was apparently just over half of what Rajamouli had originally planned.
His exact words were something like, “He only gave me 6 scripts, so he would have done some 10-14. We almost finished 60% there.”
I’m sorry, WHAT? Ten to fourteen scripts? My dude had enough material for, like, five movies, and we only got two? That’s just… that’s criminal, honestly. Think about all the backstory we missed out on. All the character development. All the epic battle sequences that are probably still sitting in Rajamouli’s notebook somewhere.
Here’s where it gets even crazier. Prabhas mentions that Rajamouli had the Part 3 script ready in his head for five years. FIVE YEARS. While we were all losing our minds over “Why Kattappa killed Baahubali,” this man already knew exactly how the story would continue.
But then—and this is so typical—Prabhas goes, “But I don’t know if Baahubali 3 will happen or not.” Like, thanks for the emotional whiplash, bro. You tell us there’s more story and then leave us hanging? Seriously, who does that to their fans?
But listening to Prabhas talk about those four years… man, that was something else. The guy mentioned how he’d sometimes completely blank out and forget he was even involved in the whole thing. Like his brain couldn’t process that he was actually living through this massive cinematic experience. Can you imagine? Four years of your life completely consumed by one story, one world, one character.
And he wasn’t complaining about it either. He just said, “Amarendra Baahubali and Mahendra Baahubali will never get out of my system.” That hit different, you know? Like, these weren’t just roles for him. They became part of who he is.
Though I totally get why he said he wanted to do something else toward the end. Four years is a long time to be anyone, even if that someone is the legendary Baahubali.
While we’re here begging for Baahubali 3, Rajamouli’s busy with his next project—SSMB29 with Mahesh Babu. And apparently, he’s being super secretive about it. Like, more secretive than usual, which is saying something.
The cast list looks insane, though—Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and R. Madhavan. It’s like he’s collecting all the good actors and putting them in one movie. Classic Rajamouli move.
Part of me wonders if he’s avoiding Baahubali 3 because he knows nothing will ever top those first two films. Or maybe he’s just waiting for the right moment to blow our minds again.
Look, I wish I could tell you we’re definitely getting Baahubali 3. I really do. But honestly? It’s all up to Rajamouli’s mood at this point. Prabhas basically said the same thing: if the director gets excited about it, then maybe we’ll get it.
But here’s my take: you don’t create that much backstory and just leave 40% of it untold. That’s not how storytellers work. They’re obsessed with completing their vision. And Rajamouli? He’s the kind of perfectionist who probably has detailed family trees for minor characters.
My guess? He’s waiting. Maybe for the right technology to tell the story the way he wants. Maybe for the stars to align. Or maybe he’s just enjoying torturing us fans who are still not over the magnificence of those first two films.
Either way, I’m not giving up hope. And honestly, after watching that interview, I’m more convinced than ever that there’s way more to this story than we know. The question isn’t whether Baahubali 3 should happen—it’s whether Rajamouli will finally put us out of our misery and give us the closure we desperately need.
