New Delhi: Guru Purnima, the festival dedicated to teachers and spiritual guides, was celebrated across the country on Thursday (July 10). On this special day, people showed respect and gratitude to their gurus, those who guide them with knowledge, wisdom, and inspiration.

Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Delhi also joined in the celebrations. The temple extended its greetings on social media and shared a message that read, “Param Pujya Mahant Swami Maharaj’s blessings on the occasion of Guru Purnima.” Devotees and followers of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha expressed their devotion through prayers, rituals, and service at temples across India and abroad.

Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashadh. The day holds great importance in Indian tradition. It is believed that on this day, Sage Vyasa, who compiled the four Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata, was born. That’s why the day is also known as Vyas Purnima or Vyas Jayanti. People remember Sage Vyasa and other spiritual teachers who have passed on wisdom from one generation to the next.

In temples, ashrams, schools, and homes, students and disciples offer prayers to their gurus, perform pujas, and seek their blessings. Many spiritual organizations hold special satsangs, discourses, and community activities to mark the day.

In modern times, Guru Purnima is not limited to religious or spiritual gurus alone. People also take the opportunity to thank their academic teachers, mentors, and anyone who has guided them in life.
