New Delhi: Australian great Steve Smith will also be seen returning to Test cricket in the next game against the West Indies at Grenada after a hiatus of more than two weeks due to a finger injury. During the World Test Championship (WTC) Smith having taken a near catch in the slips had dislocated his little finger on the right side into which he was splinted. Australia had announced their playing XI in the second test.
For me itll just feel like training as normal I think said Steve Smith a few days back before the start of the second Test as he reached Grenada to join his teammates after a week of practice in New York.
I dont really feel any pain or anything. (Its) just getting used to the splint on and the slight limited movement. Its not too bad Ive got a lot of movement there now so that feels good. Hitting the ball felt completely fine Smith added.
In order to make his gloves fit Smith will have to wear a thinner splint. Nevertheless the No. 4 Australia player will not be able to act as his typical operator in the slips. He even confessed that he will be somewhat strange when it comes to fielding in front of the wicket.
Fielding some balls in front of the wicket will probably be the strangest thing for me I dont think Ive ever done that in a Test match. Fielding at either probably mid-on or mid-off or fine leg is a bit different to standing at the second or first slip Smith added.
Steve Smith replaces Josh Inglis
Smith will replace Josh Inglis on the second test. Although Australia had a poor performance in Barbados they have decided to retain Sam Konstas maintain the same pace trio. In the three-match Verge of a Clash series the visitors are leading 1-0 and they will be keen on closing the deal given that the West Indies seek a good revival.
