New Delhi: This year has been far from normal for star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu as all that she has encountered is defeats and disappointments. Not even a single win in the first 6 months of the calendar year is something unusual for Sindhu with the badminton player being out of the limelight.

The ace Indian shuttler has said that blistering aggression has given way to stamina-testing rallies in women’s singles badminton and she’s trying to cope up with the evolving tempo in the world of tennis. As Sindhu navigates a tough challenging lean phase, she is trying to reinvent herself by changing the approach as per the requirements.

Women’s singles competition has changed: Sindhu

The star Indian shuttler, while talking at the Sports Authority of India Centre in Bengaluru, said that the women’s singles competition has completely changed as initially it was more of attack and fast rallies and now it has become more defensive with longer rallies and long matches.

She added that she has been working on that especially in terms of being more patient to continue that rally and keep the shuttle in the court for a longer period of time. Sindhu said that she realises that players have to make changes every time the game changes and as an athlete she is bent upon changing her game as it’s important to do it. The Olympic medallist also said that she realises that it will take some time to alter her game but as it is the need of the hour, she’s bent upon doing it.

This year has been far from ideal for the two-time Olympic-medallist. She has endured four first-round exits and three second-round losses, with a lone quarterfinal appearance at the India Open in January being a rare bright spot. Sindhu admitted that her entire training module has changed and she expects to get back in shape very soon.
