India has recorded a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases after months of decline, with 685 new infections in the last 24 hours. As of May 31, the country has 3,395 active cases.


Kerala leads the tally with 1,336 active infections, followed by Maharashtra (467) and Delhi (375). Tamil Nadu reported 185 cases, while Gujarat and Karnataka reported 265 and 234, respectively.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has urged the public to follow safety measures. “People must take necessary precautions and stay safe,” he stated.


Deaths and health alerts


India witnessed four COVID- deaths in the last 24 hours. All four patients reportedly had pre-existing comorbidities, indicating no fresh cause for panic.


Health experts have clarified that no new COVID-19 variant has been detected so far. However, they advise continued vigilance.

The Union Health Ministry has urged the public to stay calm but remain cautious. “Wear masks in crowded places, monitor symptoms, and consult medical experts,” the Ministry reiterated.


Precautionary steps advised


Public health advisories are being re-emphasised as infections climb. States are ramping up local surveillance and encouraging preventive behavior.


Since January, a total of 1,435 patients have recovered from the virus. However, the sudden uptick in cases has renewed concerns among health authorities.


With no new variant reported and all deaths linked to comorbidities, the government is focused on containment and early intervention.
