After a 1-1 draw in normal time, the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team battled to a 2-0 victory in the shootout against the hosts, Argentina, in their third game of the Four Nations Tournament.

India’s only goal came from Kanika (44′) in ordinary time, and the win was sealed in the shootout thanks to goals from Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi.


Milagros Del Valle (10′) gave the host team the lead in the first quarter, kicking off Argentina’s strong start. When Kanika scored the equalizer in the 44th minute to put her team back in the game, India answered in the third quarter.


The game ended in a draw at the end of regulation time and was decided by a penalty shootout. The difference was made by goalie and captain Nidhi, who shut out the hosts with four straight saves. To give India a well-deserved victory, Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi took advantage of their opportunities.


On May 25, Indian junior women defeated Chile 2-1 in Rosario, Argentina, to start their friendly Four Nations Tournament on a high note. India’s goals came from Sukhveer Kaur (39′) and Kanika Siwach (58′). Chile’s lone goal was scored by Javeria Saenz (20′).


In the 20th minute, Chile’s Javeria Saenz broke the tie, giving her team a small advantage going into the second half. But India quickly responded, with Sukhveer Kaur scoring an equalizing goal in the 39th minute of the third quarter. India’s triumph was secured in the last moments of the game when Kanika Siwach scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute.


On May 26, they then triumphed 3-2 against Uruguay in their second game. By the conclusion of the third quarter, the score was tied, but Kanika Siwach’s vital brace in the closing seconds helped India win.


She opened the scoring with a penalty corner in the 46th minute, and then sealed the well-earned victory with a crucial field goal in the 50th.
