While the festival of Shiva-Parvati marriage is celebrated with great auspicious in many different temples of the country, the marriage of Shiva and Maa Parvati is not celebrated with auspicious in Jambukeshwar temple. The reason behind this is Kidwanti connected to the temple. It is believed that once Lord Shiva had asked Goddess Parvati to go to earth and do penance. In this way Goddess Parvati came to earth as Akilandeshwari and she started worshiping Lord Shiva in the birth forest. Later, the penance of Mother Parvati was completed by seeing Lord Shiva.
Therefore, here Maa Parvati is in the form of a disciple and Lord Shiva is in the form of Guru, so her marriage is unfair. Even in the temple which is installed opposite to another. In this temple, Maa Parvati is worshiped as Akilandeshwari and Lord Shiva as Jambukeshwar. Encouraged, when Goddess Parvati came to the earth, she built Lingam from the water of the Kaveri River. Therefore, the Shivling installed in the temple was called Appu Lingam. The Goddess Maa established Lingam under a Jambu tree. Therefore, Lord Shiva is worshiped here as Jambukeshwar. There is also an interesting belief associated with this temple that the priests here are wearing clothes like a woman worshiping Lord Jambukeshwar. The reason behind doing this is very special. Goddess Parvati did penance to Lord Shiva in this temple, so even today there is a recognition of the priests wearing clothes like women during worship here.
